This research network on Categories of Religion and the Secular in Islam serves a community of scholars interested in critical approaches to 'religion' and 'the secular/non-religious' as discursive categories in Islamic contexts. Its purpose is to foster an emerging sub-field at the intersection of Islamic Studies and critical theory in the Study of Religion. For an explanation of what we mean by this, see What do we do?
The CRSI network offers an international forum for academics and graduate students in any discipline to discuss and share their work around our themes. At the heart of this activity is a community email list for ongoing discussion and circulation of academic notices, calls, publications, etc. This website is being developed as a public platform to promote work in our field.
The network is coordinated by Dr Alex Henley, Marie Curie Fellow in the Faculty of Theology & Religion at the University of Oxford. The site's Content Editor is Nabeelah Jaffer, a DPhil candidate in the same Faculty.
